Khadija Shaw is likely to leave Manchester City this summer after talks stalled over a new contract.
It would be a huge blow for the new Women’s Super League champions, who have been negotiating with the striker for several months.
Former WSL champions Chelsea are understood to be among the clubs interested in signing the 29-year-old Jamaica international, the WSL’s leading scorer this season.
City manager Andree Jeglertz stated in April he hoped Shaw would extend her contract, which expires in June.
It is understood there was confidence an agreement would be reached after positive discussions were held in January.
However, the Guardian reports, external that City have not matched Shaw’s requests over the length of the contract.
She initially had no wish to leave and had hoped to retire at City but a breakdown in negotiations means she is exploring other options.
Shaw has been the club’s top goalscorer for the past four seasons and is set to win a third successive WSL Golden Boot after scoring 19 goals in 21 appearances, with one league game remaining.
Manchester City declined to comment when approached by BBC Sport.
