Iowa and coach Ben McCollum are finalizing a new six-year contract after the Hawkeyes’ surprising run to the Elite Eight, sources told ESPN’s Pete Thamel and Jeff Borzello on Friday.

McCollum had drawn interest from North Carolina in its coaching search but reported during Iowa’s tournament run that he was not leaving the Hawkeyes, who as a No. 9 seed made it to the brink of their first Final Four appearance since 1980.

Iowa went 24-13 in McCollum’s first season at the school. He came to the Hawkeyes from Drake after taking the Bulldogs to the NCAA tournament second round in his only season at the school.

Prior to that, McCollum was a four-time Division II national champion as the coach at Northwest Missouri State.
