Marinakis has overseen a rollercoaster season at the City Ground, sacking three managers in Nuno Espirito Santo, Ange Postecoglou and Sean Dyche, before Vitor Pereira secured Premier League safety.

They also reached the semi-finals of the Europa League before a 4-1 aggregate defeat by eventual winners Aston Villa.

In 2024, Marinakis was found guilty of improper conduct and handed a five-game stadium ban for spitting on the floor as match officials walked past following Forest’s 1-0 Premier League defeat by Fulham.

Three months later, he was a central character what the Football Association (FA) called “an attack on the integrity of a match official on an unparalleled scale” after a Forest social media post made about video assistant referee (VAR) Stuart Attwell.

Marinakis reported he had “no regrets” speaking about “big mistakes” made by the official, but Forest were fined £750,000 for the post which the FA described as “ill-chosen and irresponsible”.

The club’s official X account called Attwell’s integrity into question after Forest claimed three penalty decisions went against them in a defeat at Everton.
