No. 7 Tennessee moved within one win of the Women’s College World Series championship series Saturday, defeating No. 11 Texas Tech, 2-1, on Emma Clarke’s walk-off home run in the ninth inning. The Lady Vols improved to 2-0 in Oklahoma City after winning a tightly contested pitchers’ duel that featured two of the nation’s top arms in Tennessee’s Karlyn Pickens and Texas Tech ace NiJaree Canady.Tennessee appeared on the verge of a regulation victory after Taelyn Holley’s solo home run provided the game’s first run in the fifth inning. However, Texas Tech forced extra innings by capitalizing on a missed tag at the plate in the seventh before Clarke delivered the decisive blow two innings later. The loss sends the Red Raiders into an elimination game Sunday against No. 8 UCLA.Later in the day, No. 1 overall seed Alabama continued its strong start to the tournament with a 5-1 victory over No. 4 Nebraska. The Crimson Tide snapped the Cornhuskers’ 27-game winning streak and improved to 2-0 in the WCWS behind another standout performance from Jocelyn Briski, who carried a perfect game into the fourth inning. Alabama jumped in front early on Marlie Giles’ three-run home run in the first inning and never trailed.Nebraska now drops into the elimination bracket, where it will face defending national champion Texas on Sunday. The Longhorns kept their season alive Friday behind Teagan Kavan’s fourth career WCWS shutout and now must continue navigating the losers bracket if they hope to return to the championship series for the fourth time in five seasons.
