Saturday’s scheduleCarolina Hurricanes at Vegas Golden Knights
Game 3, 8 p.m. ET (ABC) | Series tied 1-1

  • If one team goes up by multiple goals, do not turn off the game. Both teams have a multigoal comeback victory this series, and this is the first time since Games 3 and 4 of the 1942 Cup Final (Red Wings vs. Maple Leafs) that there were consecutive multigoal comebacks, with one by each team.

Seth Jarvis scored the game-winning power-play goal in overtime of Game 2, becoming the sixth player in Stanley Cup playoff history to score such a goal. The others on the list: Leon Draisaitl (Oilers, 2025), Kevin Shattenkirk (Lightning, 2020), Petr Sykora (Penguins, 2008), Denis Potvin (Islanders, 1980) and Bill Cook (Rangers, 1933).

Game 2 was Frederik Andersen’s 100th career playoff start, and he won. He was the first goalie to win his 100th playoff start since Chris Osgood in 2008, breaking a streak of five straight goalies losing their 100th playoff start.

Canes defenseman Shayne Gostisbehere has a five-game point streak, setting a new Whalers/Hurricanes franchise record for a defenseman in a single postseason. He breaks out of a four-way tie with Brady Skjei (2024), Jaccob Slavin (2023) and Frantisek Kaberle (2006).

Brett Howden scored two 5-on-5 goals in Game 2, but he is on the verge of NHL history if he can net another short-handed tally. He has three this postseason, in an eight-way tie for the most in a single playoff run. The others on the list are Derek Sanderson (1969), Bill Barber (1980), Lorne Henning (1980), Wayne Gretzky (1983), Wayne Presley (1989), Todd Marchant (1997) and Tobias Rieder (2020).

Mitch Marner has a playoff-leading 24 points, which is tied with Matthew Tkachuk (2023) for fourth-most points scored in a player’s first postseason with a team, behind Frank Mahovlich (27 with the Canadiens in 1971), Marian Hossa (26 with the Penguins in 2008) and Corey Stillman (26 with the Hurricanes in 2006).

The next point that Jack Eichel scores will make him the eighth U.S.-born skater with multiple 20-point postseasons, joining Mike Modano (three times), Patrick Kane (three times), Matthew Tkachuk (three times), Craig Janney (twice), Kevin Stevens (twice), Phil Kessel (twice) and Jake Guentzel (twice).

Carter Hart has carried a shutout into the third period six times this postseason but has yet to finish any of them. He is the third goalie in NHL history to lose six shutouts in the third period in a single postseason, joining Tuukka Rask in 2019 and Matt Murray in 2016.

    Best bet for Saturday

The bet: Golden Knights vs. Hurricanes over 5.5 (-125)

Short of a prop that simply says the game will go into overtime — which is available at “yes” +260, for what it’s worth — the first two games in Raleigh proved neither of these defensive structures can fully close the door when the other team starts pressing. Both games have already featured wild multigoal comebacks and cleared this 5.5 line with room to spare.

The potential absence of veteran shot-blocking defender Brayden McNabb (who left Game 2 after taking a slap shot to the face) leaves a massive hole in the Golden Knights’ penalty kill. Carolina’s power play finally found life with two critical goals Thursday night. All told, there’s no reason to think a change of venue will magically fix the defensive leaks or help these goalies plug the dam. — Sean Allen

    Thursday’s scoreboard

Carolina Hurricanes 4, Vegas Golden Knights 3 (OT)
    Series tied 1-1

From the first moments of Game 2, the Golden Knights were once again limiting any type of offensive momentum that the Canes could generate. And two breakaway goals by Brett Howden (at 13:33 of the first and 7:23 in the second) gave them a two-goal cushion after two periods.

However, the Canes came back to tie the game in quick succession in the third, thanks to goals from Logan Stankoven at 10:20, and Mark Jankowski just two minutes, 26 seconds later. With the game tied, it appeared that Ivan Barbashev scored on a high-effort play, but the goal was waved off and verified a “no goal” after review:

The unsuccessful coaches’ challenge by Vegas gave the Canes a power play, on which they converted for the first time all series, with Jordan Staal tipping in a rocket off the stick of Shayne Gostisbehere. Undeterred, the Knights kept battling, and after an unsuccessful power play of their own, Mark Stone found the net with just 1:21 left on the clock. Despite a couple of chances both ways, the game headed to overtime.

It didn’t take long for the Canes to find themselves on another power play, and Seth Jarvis played the hero, with his fourth goal of the postseason serving as the OT game winner. Game 3 is Saturday in Las Vegas. Full recap | Grades
