England have dropped Sophia Dunkley and promoted Amy Jones to open for their T20 World Cup warm-up against Australia in Cardiff.

Dunkley’s place was vulnerable after she scored 98 runs in six innings during England’s preceding series against New Zealand and India, with a highest score of 26.

Both openers fell cheaply, though, with Jones caught at mid-off for two and Danni Wyatt-Hodge bowled for four.

Captain Nat Sciver-Brunt replaced Dunkley in the top six, batting at three in her first international appearance of the summer, while the in-form Alice Capsey remains at four – which is likely to be the line-up for England’s tournament opener against Sri Lanka on Friday.

Sciver-Brunt is playing as a specialist batter as she continues her recovery from a calf injury.

Australia won the toss and chose to bowl first at Sophia Gardens, where England also play India in their second warm-up match on Wednesday.
