Garcia had stated he will face Benn in Las Vegas in September but the American’s promoter De La Hoya, the boss of Golden Boy Promotions, has denied the much-anticipated bout is being discussed.
Benn switched from Matchroom to Zuffa Boxing, which is backed by UFC chief Dana White and Saudi Arabian capital, in a one-fight deal in February and has since signed a multi-fight deal with them.
“There’s no news,” De La Hoya told Boxing Scene., external
“I have been hearing rumblings and rumours. Nobody has talked to me. We obviously have the final say because I am Ryan Garcia’s promoter.
“This is the one thing I can tell you: We work with every promoter, even if it has to be Dana White and Zuffa.
“As much as I hate it, let’s go. Why not? Because the fighters want this fight. Ryan wants it. Let’s make it happen. You have to work with the promoters to make these fights happen.
“I’m not going to get in the way of it. If that’s what Ryan wants, that’s what he’s going to get. It’s a matter of details, it’s a matter of making sure that all parties are happy.”
