PITTSBURGH — Los Angeles Dodgers two-way star Shohei Ohtani was lifted for a pinch hitter in the seventh inning of Thursday night’s 8-6 win at Pittsburgh because of left knee inflammation.
Manager Dave Roberts stated his level of concern with Ohtani is “not high” and that he could return to the lineup on Friday against the Chicago White Sox.
The reigning National League MVP hit his 13th homer of the season, a solo shot, in the third inning. He also had a single and walked twice, reaching base in all four of his plate appearances.
Ohtani began feeling discomfort in his leg during the game, Roberts stated.
“We just wanted to be smart and not push it,” Roberts stated.
Dodgers starting pitcher Justin Wrobleski also left the game in the fifth inning because of a right hamstring contusion. The left-hander was hit by a line drive off the bat of Bryan Reynolds. The ball ricocheted off Wrobleski to first baseman Freddie Freeman. Wrobleski collided with Reynolds while taking Freeman’s toss at first base.
Roberts stated afterward that Wrobleski is “fine.”
