Adrian Rodriguez put together the greatest individual performance of the 2026 College World Series on Monday. The shortstop spearheaded an offensive explosion from No. 6 Texas in a 14-2 rout of No. 7 Alabama with one of the most impressive efforts the NCAA baseball tournament has ever witnessed. It was a 5-for-5 day at the plate for Rodriguez, who doubled twice, tripled, singled and bashed a home run. He became just the third player to ever hit for the cycle in a CWS game, and that remarkable feat also came with seven RBIs and 12 total bases — both of which tied CWS single-game records. That Rodriguez’s outburst came in an elimination game made it all the more crucial for the Longhorns.Texas chased Alabama starter Zane Adams after just 1.2 innings and tagged him for seven earned runs. It teed off against the Crimson Tide from the opening frame through the ninth and sent its SEC rival home in the process. With the win, the Longhorns extended their season by at least one more day and will now get another crack at No. 3 Georgia in an elimination game. The Bulldogs fell into the loser’s bracket by way of their 4-3 loss to Oklahoma in Monday’s nightcap. Oklahoma drew first blood in that 1-0 game with a three-run first inning, and behind home runs from Jaxon Willits and Brendan Brock, it remained scalding hot at the dish. Approximately one-quarter of the Sooners’ home runs on the season have come in the NCAA tournament.
Xander Mercurious was also fantastic for Oklahoma on the mound. The freshman right-hander threw a career-high 7.1 innings and racked up a personal-best nine strikeouts to record his first win in a Sooners uniform. His squad now sits in the Bracket 2 catbird seat and will meet the winner of the Texas vs. Georgia rematch.
