June 16: Tuesday’s news to know
By Todd Zola
Tuesday’s full slate gets going at 6:40 p.m. ET with an NL East affair featuring the Miami Marlins visiting the Philadelphia Phillies. Rain could be an issue in two games: the Cincinnati Reds hosting the New York Mets and the Atlanta Braves entertaining the San Francisco Giants.
-
Trea Turner‘s availability for tonight’s opener is uncertain after he was hit on the right hand by a pitch last night and subsequently removed from the game. X-rays were negative, rendering his status as day-to-day. Edmundo Sosa shifted from third base to shortstop with Alec Bohm coming in to play third base. Bohm was initially going to get the day off. Sosa is the likely replacement if Turner has to miss more action.
-
Weather-permitting, Kodai Senga is slated to come off the 15-day IL and take the hill for the Mets. He was scheduled for another rehab outing, but the club opted to activate him after placing Christian Scott on the 15-day IL due to a hip issue. Senga tossed 75 pitches over six frames in his last rehab effort, so he should be able to work with limited restrictions.
-
The Texas Rangers placed Corey Seager on the 7-day IL as he continues to experience concussion symptoms following a home plate collision last Thursday. Ezequiel Duran, Nicky Lopez, and Josh Smith could all see action at shortstop. Smith was activated from the 10-day IL last night after recovering from glute and wrist injuries, as well as needing a hospital stay for viral meningitis.
-
The Detroit Tigers scratched Troy Melton from starting last night’s series opener with the Houston Astros. He was experiencing a tight lower back, resulting in Drew Anderson stepping in for a spot start and tossing 2 2/3 innings in what was essentially a bullpen game. The Tigers did end up winning 9-3. Melton’s next start is up in the air, but they have some flexibility with both Casey Mize and Justin Verlander due back this week, along with an off day on Thursday.
-
Gleyber Torres had to exit last night’s game in the second inning after hurting his side during an at-bat. The Tigers replaced him with Hao-Yu Lee, who finished the night 2-for-4. Torres returned from a left oblique strain on June 1 and has hit .341/.413/.585 this month. Lee, Colt Keith, and Jahmai Jones will help cover the keystone if Torres needs to return to the IL.
-
The Astros’ battery for the Tigers matchup is slated to be Hunter Brown on the mound with Yainer Diaz behind the plate. Both are expected to be activated from the IL before the contest. Brown has been sidelined with a Grade 2 shoulder strain after last appearing on March 31. The right-hander built up to 75 pitches in his fourth and final rehab start, so he should be able to extend to 80-85 pitches in his return. Diaz has been shelved since May 4 due to a left oblique strain.
-
The Los Angeles Dodgers are set to welcome back Tommy Edman as he’ll reportedly make his 2026 debut tonight at home against the Tampa Bay Rays. He’s completed his rehab after undergoing offseason right ankle surgery. Edman is expected to be eased into action with multiple off days per week before eventually taking over at the keystone full time.
-
The San Diego Padres placed closer Mason Miller on the bereavement list yesterday, so he’ll be out until at least tomorrow, and possibly through Sunday. Jason Adam will likely handle save chances, though he wasn’t needed last night as the Padres were blanked 3-0 with Dustin May completing a one-hit shutout for the St. Louis Cardinals.

June 15: Claim Colorado’s Carrigg
By Tristan H. Cockcroft
Rostered in just 4.7% of ESPN leagues, Colorado OF Cole Carrigg (a 2023 second-round pick) quickly ascended the Rockies’ minor league system, arriving in Colorado as the team enjoyed one of its most hitter-friendly matchup weeks. He hit a pair of home runs, one at Coors Field and the other at Las Vegas Ballpark, demonstrating the decent level of pop in his swing to go along with the on-base ability (.359 career minor league OBP) and speed (30 steals in 57 Triple-A games this year) already present.
Carrigg might be better used as a home-game streamer initially — and he’s a bit more of a roto than points-league standout — but he’s worth a look with the Rockies set to play 13 of their next 19 games at Coors.

June 15: Monday’s news to know
Seiya Suzuki of the Chicago Cubs has a ten-game hitting streak. Thearon W. Henderson/Getty ImagesBy Todd ZolaThe fantasy week begins with a 10-game slate, with everything under the lights. Action gets underway at 6:40 p.m. ET with the Philadelphia Phillies entertaining the Miami Marlins.
-
Seiya Suzuki was scratched from yesterday’s series finale between the Chicago Cubs and San Francisco Giants. He had left Saturday’s game early due to a sore knee and was held out of Sunday’s affair for precautionary purposes. The club expects to have Suzuki back tonight when they host the Colorado Rockies.
-
The Texas Rangers played without Corey Seager for the third straight game last night as he’s still experiencing concussion symptoms after a home plate collision last Thursday. Ezequiel Duran filled in at shortstop for the Rangers’ 6-4 win, avoiding the road sweep. Seager remains questionable for tonight’s matchup with the Minnesota Twins.
-
Casey Mize was set to come off the 15-day IL to start yesterday, but the Detroit Tigers-Cleveland Guardians game was washed out and will be made up on September 4. The club has decided to delay Mize’s return until Wednesday’s series finale against the Houston Astros. Troy Melton will stay on schedule and start tonight’s game, and the Tigers will carry an extra batter before they officially activate Mize.
-
Grayson Rodriguez logged only 2 1/3 innings yesterday, yielding a pair of runs in the Los Angeles Angels’ 8-3 loss to the Tampa Bay Rays. Rodriguez wasn’t sharp and was pulled after hitting Cedric Mullins’ foot. After the game, he was diagnosed with a tight back, putting his scheduled start on Friday in jeopardy.
-
The Arizona Diamondbacks are set to activate Lourdes Gurriel Jr. before tonight’s home date with the Angels. Gurriel has been out for about three weeks thanks to a strained hamstring. To clear a roster spot, the club will option Ryan Waldschmidt to Triple-A Reno. The 23-year-old rookie posted a .259/.314/.357 line with five steals over 33 games, but he fanned at a 33.1% clip while walking only 6.6% of the time. Waldschmidt’s demotion paves the way for Jordan Lawlar to see regular action in center field.
-
When the Milwaukee Brewers return to action tomorrow, they’ll have top prospect Cooper Pratt on the roster, ostensibly to take over for Joey Ortiz at shortstop. Pratt is one of many highly regarded infield prospects in the system. The 21-year-old posted a .236/.345/.382 line in 58 games for Triple-A Nashville, though he hit .276/.364/.474 with eight steals over his last 30 contests. Ortiz will serve as a utility infielder and could work into the third base rotation with David Hamilton and Luis Rengifo.
