In the following game at the same venue, India kept the pressure on Australia as they crushed the Netherlands by 95 runs.

It was another mismatch as the 50-over world champions blitzed 209-5 with Smriti Mandhana scoring a sublime 74 from 47 balls.

Smriti shared an opening stand of 115 with Shafali Verma, who made 55, before Richa Ghosh’s power hitting came to the fore again as her 20 from just eight balls propelled India past 200.

The gulf in class was stark during the Netherlands’ innings as they were skittled for 114 in 17.3 overs, with captain Babette de Leede’s 28 the top score. India’s left-arm spinner Sree Charani was exceptional for her 4-19 while part-timer Verma took 3-20.

But despite the positivity of India’s overall form, they were dealt an injury blow as spinner Shreyanka Patil was taken from the pitch on a stretcher having twisted her ankle while fielding.
