Many of those selections are a reflection of the change to the longest format but, given she is set to lead England at the World Cup while Sciver-Brunt is injured, Dean’s absence is the most surprising.

Having filled in impressively at the start of the summer, she would have been the obvious candidate to lead England if Sciver-Brunt does not recover from her calf injury.

Kemp and Gibson, meanwhile, have only recently returned from back injuries.

The Lord’s Test is historic, but England’s priority this summer is the home T20 World Cup.

Experienced opener Tammy Beaumont, fellow batters Maia Bouchier and Emma Lamb have been included, while Alice Capsey could play her first Test.

England have not played in the longest format under coach Charlotte Edwards, with their most recent being an innings defeat by Australia in the Ashes series down under in early 2025.

Dunkley and Wyatt-Hodge were in England’s middle order for that match, with Beaumont and Bouchier the openers. They picked a bowling attack of Lauren Bell, Lauren Filer, Ryana MacDonald-Gay and Sophie Ecclestone.

MacDonald-Gay, 22, has not been included this time. She had a back injury through the winter and, though she has been in good form for Surrey on her return, has been overlooked.

Her absence has created an opportunity for 23-year-old Lancashire seamer Potts

She has taken 11 50-over wickets and 11 T20 wickets for Lancashire this season. Her county team-mate Threlkeld offers a second wicketkeeping option to Amy Jones.
