Wales’ highs and lows under Bellamy

Ex-Wales international Iwan Roberts feels former team-mate Bellamy has “burned a lot of bridges” as a result of the Burnley negotiations.

Roberts suggested “the big question now” surrounds whether the FAW will keep faith with Bellamy, whose Wales contract runs until Euro 2028.

But when asked in an interview with the BBC’s Politics Wales programme whether Bellamy will be in charge when Wales return to action in September, Mooney reported: “Yeah, we just look forward to these games.

“He’s done a terrific job here so far. He has got us playing really, really good football. We’re just looking forward to the autumn now.”

Mooney also played down the suggestion that the Burnley link had damaged Bellamy’s reputation among some fans because it has cast doubt over his commitment to Wales.

“Craig is absolutely committed to his country. He is committed to the job,” Mooney added.

“Every discussion we have, he’s always talking about the future and how we’re going to go forward.

“We understand the conversations will happen around the place, but he’s here, and we’re all looking forward to the autumn.”

Noel Mooney’s full interview with Politics Wales will be available to watch at 10:00 BST Sunday on BBC One Wales and iPlayer.
