Can Britain’s final four keep home hopes going?

Swan is one of four Brits in singles action on day four, with Jan Choinski’s meeting with 17th seed Frances Tiafoe third on Court Two and Jacob Fearnley and Arthur Fery also eyeing a place in round three.

“It’s going to be a really difficult match,”stated Swan about facing Keys. “But the last time we played, it was very close.”

Choinski, who broke into the top 100 for the first time this week at the age of 30, stated: “I love playing against guys like Frances, seeing where my game’s at, what I can improve, what I have improved, and if I can go toe to toe with them.”

Fery, 23, takes on Finnish qualifier Otto Virtanen, having knocked out fourth seed Ben Shelton in the biggest upset of the championships so far, at 11:00 in the opening match on court 18.

Fearnley fought back to win a five-set thriller in the first round and now faces 44th-ranked Spaniard Jaume Munar in the third match on court 12.

Only in 1990 and 2007 has there been no home representation in the third round at the All England Club since the start of the professional era.

Jannik Sinner won his fourth Grand Slam singles title at Wimbledon last year

Sinner is the favourite to win the men’s title in the absence of injured two-time Wimbledon champion Carlos Alcaraz.

All-time great Novak Djokovic continues his quest for a standalone record 25th Grand Slam title – and an eighth at SW19, which would equal Roger Federer’s men’s record.

French Open champion Zverev and last year’s semi-finalist Flavio Cobolli are among the other contenders still in the draw.

Swiatek will be determined to retain her title but world number one Aryna Sabalenka is the favourite to win her first Wimbledon title.

World number four Jessica Pegula and last year’s runner-up Amanda Anisimova are both bidding for a first major singles title, while world number two Rybakina won the title in 2022.

What’s happened to British players in the singles draw?

From the brink of quitting to Wimbledon win – GB’s Swan on redemption

Swan, Fearnley, Fery and Choinski ensured there will be British representation in the second round – but 15 home players fell to opening-round defeats for the first time in 38 years.

The 10 losses by British players on the opening day of their home Grand Slam was the most at SW19 since daily records began in 2000.

Defeats for Katie Boulter, Toby Samuel, Jack Pinnington Jones, Billy Harris and debutant Harry Wendelken on Tuesday meant the total number of first-round losses for home players was the most since 16 exited in 1988.

Six British players were ranked high enough to receive direct entry into the singles draws, but only Choinski made it through the first round.

Emma Raducanu and Jack Draper pulled out prior to their first-round matches because of injury, while men’s number one Cameron Norrie lost to Michael Zheng in five sets on Monday and Francesca Jones and Boulter also departed.
