Could you argue that there is more on the line for the bronze medal game than in the duel for gold Sunday? After all, even the loser of Sunday’s inevitable tilt between Canada and the U.S. gets to take a medal home.
No, that’s a silly sentiment. All the players on both the Slovakian and Finnish clubs want to take home some hardware from Italy.
Both teams to score (excluding overtime): No (+390)
Although he started the tournament by coughing up three goals on 24 shots to this same Slovak squad, Juuse Saros has improved as the tournament progressed, culminating in him almost claiming the title of public enemy No. 1 in Canada with his 36-save performance in the semifinal Friday. Of his nine goals allowed in the tournament, four have come on the power play. If Finland can stay out of the box, Saros will write a different script than the 4-1 loss to Slovakia that opened the tournament back on Feb. 11. — Allen
Group B StandingsTeamW-OTW-OTL-LPoints2-0-0-162-0-0-162-0-0-160-0-0-30Anytime goal scorer: Mikko Rantanen (+120)
Rantanen has at least one point in each of the past three games when the Finnish squad has the numbers advantage. It also happens that Slovakia has given up the most power plays in the tournament by a massive margin (22, seven more than second place). — Allen
Juraj Slafkovsky shots on goal: 4+ (+105)
Juraj Slafkovsky, the reigning Olympics MVP, is still finding that next level in international play in this tournament. He has at least a point in every game (four goals, four assists) and a team-leading 22 shots. This doesn’t have to be mutually special with the Saros prop above if we target those shots on goal. Even though the Finns are primed to limit chances in this rematch given their improved play through the tournament, Slafkovsky should still get chances.
His shot totals through the tournament have been four (Finland), seven (Italy), four (Sweden), five (Germany) and two (United States); so he has been a shot machine when not facing the stalwart American defense. — Allen
Parlay: +2110
If you wanted up the ante, all three of these props can coexist with a Finland bronze win in a shutdown defensive game and would parlay at +2110. — Allen
