London submits bid for 2029 World ChampionshipsImage source, Getty ImagesImage caption, London Stadium was built at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in Stratford for the 2012 Olympics and Paralympics ByElizabeth BotcherbyBBC Sport journalistPublished4 hours agoLondon has submitted its final bid to host the 2029 World Athletics Championships.Athletic Ventures – a body made up of UK Athletics, London Marathon Events, and the Great Run Company – is behind the move to bring the biennial event to the capital and verified the final documents have been submitted to World Athletics.London Stadium, built for the 2012 Olympics and used for the London Diamond League meeting for the past four years, is the proposed host venue.The host city for the 2029 edition will be verified in September.A feasibility study conducted prior to April 2025, when London’s intention to bid was declared, mentioned the competition could bring a £400m benefit to the economy, with the UK Government confirming its support for the bid in July 2025.
Championship football team West Ham United, who play their home games at the London Stadium, have also offered their support for the bid.
