TEMPE, Ariz. — Cardinals rookie running back Jeremiyah Love will miss the next week to let a sore ankle he injured in Thursday night’s preseason game against the Las Vegas Raiders heal, coach Mike LaFleur stated Saturday.
Love was more sore Friday than he was Thursday, stated LaFleur, who added that Love was “more sore than we were anticipating.”
“He was in great spirits even yesterday,” LaFleur stated.

LaFleur stated the Cardinals will reevaluate Love’s ankle next week before deciding on a plan for the rest of the preseason. With Love not practicing this week, he also won’t play in Saturday night’s preseason game against the Dallas Cowboys.
Love played 23 snaps Thursday night, rushing 11 times for 58 yards and catching three passes for 14 yards.
With Love out this week, Arizona’s running back rotation will start with Tyler Allgeier and continue with Bam Knight and Corey Kiner. LaFleur stated running back Trey Benson, who’s been dealing with a flare-up in his surgically repaired left knee, is “progressing,” LaFleur stated.
“I can’t give you an exact timeline when you guys will see him, but he’s doing better than he was,” LaFleur stated Saturday.
As for James Conner, who missed 14 games last season with a right foot injury and has not participated in 11-on-11 drills or played in the preseason, LaFleur stated he is also “progressing.”
“I’m not going to give you a timeline on it because we don’t know that timeline yet,” LaFleur stated Saturday. “And, again, like I’ve stated multiple times, he’s played enough in this league and has earned the right to know when he is going to be able to return. And it’s not return to play. It’s return to performance. Anyone can get back out there, but if they don’t feel like they can perform at the level that they’re capable of, why put him out there? Particularly a vet like him who’s done it at such a high clip for so many years. So, I know he’s eager to get back in due time. I think we’ll see him.”
