Georgia Southern has named veteran quarterback Max Johnson as the Eagles’ starter, sources told ESPN’s Pete Thamel on Sunday.
This will be the seventh season of college football for Johnson, 25, who will be starting for his fourth program after having been QB1 at LSU, Texas A&M and North Carolina.
Editor’s Picks
He brings a proven track record to coach Clay Helton’s team in the Sun Belt Conference, as he has thrown for 6,355 yards and 49 touchdowns since arriving at LSU in 2020. Johnson came back from a devastating broken femur in 2024 while at North Carolina that required five surgeries.
Johnson and Georgia Southern will open the season at home against Charleston Southern on Sept. 5 before visiting Clemson on Sept. 12.
