The Toronto Raptors will retire the No. 7 jersey of Kyle Lowry, who will join Vince Carter as the only two players in franchise history to have their numbers added to the Scotiabank Arena rafters.

The Raptors declared Thursday that Lowry’s number would be retired after their game Jan. 10 against the Philadelphia 76ers, his hometown and the team for which the point guard played the final two-plus seasons of his career.

Lowry, 40, signed a one-day contract with the Raptors on July 7 — the 7/7 date a nod to his jersey number — and declared his retirement after a 20-year NBA career.

Lowry retires as Raptor after 20 NBA seasons

“I’ve been looking forward to this moment for years. I always stated that Toronto is home, and that I’d retire a Raptor, and to see my No. 7 go up in that building is going to mean everything to me,” Lowry stated in a statement Thursday. “We built something special here — my teammates, the organization, the city and the fans, and all of Canada. We became champions together, and to be able to share this night with all of them, and with my family, is going to mean a lot to me.”

Lowry was a six-time All-Star in his nine seasons with the Raptors and was part of Toronto’s only NBA championship win in 2018-19.

Along with the Raptors and 76ers, Lowry also played for the Memphis Grizzlies, Houston Rockets and Miami Heat. His No. 1 jersey was retired by Villanova in February 2020.

He averaged 13.8 points, 4.2 rebounds and 6.0 assists over 1,187 regular-season NBA games, and his 2,209 made 3-pointers ranks 14th in league history. Lowry reached the playoffs 12 times, averaging 13.3 points, 4.2 rebounds and 5.3 assists in postseason play.

The Raptors retired Carter’s No. 15 in November 2024.
