UFC 327 delivered the goods on Saturday night in Miami. A fight card expected to bring plenty of action did just that inside the Kaseya Center where a new champion was crowned in the light heavyweight division.
Carlos Ulberg earned the vacant strap at 205 pounds after scoring a stunning knockout of Jiri Prochazka in the first round. Ulberg, who appeared to injure his knee early on, rallied from a pair of slips and knockdowns to land the finishing punches after Prochazka went out cold after appearing to take his foot off the gas.
Now, the division faces a bit of uncertainty given the potential for a long injury time out for the new champion.
Elsewhere on the card, Paulo Costa scored a thrilling knockout of Azamat Murzakanov in a fight he needed to win. Costa rallied to land a devastating head kick that put Murzakanov on the back foot. A quick stumble then led to a complete fall down as the referee waved off the action. It was Costa’s first knockout win since 2018
Plus, Josh Hokit made a name for himself in a featured win over Curtis Blaydes. The two authored an all-time great heavyweight fight as they threw caution to the wind and combined to land a record number of strikes over 15 minutes. Hokit quickly parlayed the win over Blaydes into a spot on the White House at Freedom 250 against Derrick Lewis in a fight that was booked immediately after the bout ended.
