Ryan Garcia shook up the welterweight rankings with a one-sided throttling of Mario Barrios on Saturday to become the new WBC champion. Garcia dominated the fight from the opening bell, dropping Barrios in Round 1 and taking nearly every round on the scorecards. The strong performance got him back into the win column after nearly three winless years and shot him to the No. 4 spot in ESPN’s rankings. Garcia’s win also boosted Rolando “Rolly” Romero, who defeated Garcia by unanimous decision last May, from No. 7 to No. 3. Barrios, now 0-1-2 in his past three fights, fell out of the rankings completely.

The light heavyweight rankings also saw the removal of Artur Beterbiev and Dmitry Bivol because of inactivity. Their vacancy allowed David Benavidez to ascend to the top spot.

The 140-pound division was supposed to be active over the weekend, but Richardson Hitchins’ IBF title defense against Oscar Duarte was called off when the champion had to withdraw because of illness. Gary Antuanne Russell successfully defended his WBA title by holding off a late surge by Andy Hiraoka. Russell holds his spot at No. 8, while Hiraoka’s strong second half was enough to push him into the No. 10 spot.

ESPN’s divisional boxing rankings highlight the best in the sport in every weight class. Rankings will change based on recent results and performances. Fighters who have revealed they are moving to a different weight class will be ranked in that new division, if warranted, only once they fight in that weight class. Fighters who currently own titles in two divisions can be ranked in both.

Fighters who haven’t competed in the past 12 months — and don’t have a fight scheduled — will be dropped from the rankings until they fight again. Any fighter who tests positive for a performance-enhancing substance will also be removed. That boxer will be eligible to reenter the rankings after his next bout.
