McIlroy’s historic lead evaporated on Saturday, with the defending champion going 1 over par. Cameron Young took the opportunity to shoot up the leaderboard with a 7-under par, tying McIlroy for first overall as the sun set on Augusta heading into the final day.
However, McIlroy found his way back on top to claim his second consecutive Masters, becoming the first golfer since Tiger Woods in 2001-2002 to win back-to-back tournaments at Augusta.
Halfway through his round, Justin Rose gained steam to take the lead at 12 under. McIlroy and Young weren’t far off at their halfway point with 11-under par. Tyrrell Hatton and Russell Henley tied at third at 10 under. McIlroy regained control on the back nine and held on to win another Masters.
