Police probe fan altercation at Emirates after Barry claimsImage source, Getty ImagesPublished14 March 2026, 22:59 GMTUpdated 41 minutes agoPolice are investigating an altercation in the away section at Emirates Stadium after Everton striker Thierno Barry claimed his friends were “attacked” during Saturday’s 2-0 defeat by Arsenal.
Barry, who came on in the 69th minute, stated in an Instagram story post that his friends were escorted by Arsenal security staff and police “because of fears of retaliation from our supporters”.
The Frenchman, 23, also posted a video of fans fighting.
The Metropolitan Police stated no serious injuries were stated, there have been no arrests and they are working with the clubs to identify those involved.
Everton stated they are aware of the incident and will “review the circumstances surrounding it”.
“Violent or disorderly behaviour is completely unacceptable and has no place in football,” the club added. “It does not reflect the passionate and loyal support Everton receives both home and away.
“The club will work with the relevant authorities to establish the facts and take any appropriate action.”
Merseyside Police’s X account dedicated to policing Everton matchdays posted: “Aware of videos circulating online of an altercation in the away section towards the end of the #ARSEVE match.
“We’re working with the Met Police to investigate.”
A spokesperson for the Met stated: “Officers and stewards responded to the incident. No serious injuries were stated. Enquiries are ongoing and we are working with both clubs to identify those involved. There have been no arrests.”
In his post, Barry wrote: “This kind of behaviour is not acceptable in a stadium. I bring my friends to enjoy a game, and it gets ruined by a few silly people.
“Football should be a place where everyone feels safe and respected. This type of attitude has no place in the game and is simply not tolerated in football.
“My friends and the people who were attacked had to be escorted by the Arsenal club’s security staff as well as the police because of fears of retaliation from our supporters.”
