Two new champions were crowned this year at Roland-Garros. No. 2 Alexander Zverev took the men’s singles title after defeating No. 10 Flavio Cobolli in the final on Sunday. It marked Zverev’s first grand slam title after previously coming up short in three tries. The win also means a massive payday for the German, who will take home more than $3 million for his efforts over two weeks in Paris.Zverev became the first German to win a men’s grand slam title since Boris Becker at the 1996 Australian Open. He was also long considered the best player on tour without a grand slam title to his name after Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner passed him in the rankings and at majors. Now at 29 years old, Zverev finally joins the elite class of players. On the women’s side, teenager Mirra Andreeva defeated qualifier Maja Chwalinska in the final on Saturday to take her first grand slam title. The win means even more for her bank account. As champion, Zverev and Andreeva earned roughly $3.25 million, by far her biggest payday to date as a pro. Chwalinska and Cobolli, meanwhile, earned over $1.6 million for reaching the final. For Chwalinska, it was by far her biggest purse to date. Her career earnings on tour was roughly $866,000.
