A new champion has been crowned at Roland-Garros. Teenager Mirra Andreeva defeated qualifier Maja Chwalinska in the women’s singles final on Saturday to take her first grand slam title. The win means even more for her bank account. As champion, Andreeva earned roughly $3.25 million, by far her biggest payday to date as a pro. Chwalinska, meanwhile, easily saw her biggest payday by reaching the final, earning $1.6 million. Her career earnings on tour to date was roughly $866,000. On the men’s side, it’s down to No. 2 Alexander Zverev and No. 10 Flavio Cobolli in the final. Zverev got past Jakub Mensik in four sets in the semifinals while Cobolli got a walkover win after Matteo Arnaldi fell ill overnight ahead of the match. Everyone that reaches the quarterfinals round in the singles competition will collect a paycheck north of $545,000, as there is life-changing money on the line, only adding to the pressure of chasing one of the sport’s most coveted titles.
