Shannon Ryan is knocking at the door of the top 5 in the women’s junior bantamweight division after dispatching of Nicola Hopewell in two rounds on Saturday in Wolverhampton, England. Ryan was expected to beat Hopewell, but the manner in which she did it was impressive, clobbering her opponent with power shots in the opening round and piling on the punishment in Round 2 for the finish. A rematch with Emma Dolan, who handed Ryan her only blemish with a split decision in 2024, should be on the horizon.
Skye Nicolson maintains her No. 3 spot in the junior featherweight rankings by cruising by Mariah Turner in defense of her WBC women’s interim title last week in Melbourne, Australia. It was a sound technical clinic by Nicolson as she pitched a shutout on the scorecards and collected her fourth consecutive victory since dropping a decision to Tiara Brown last March.
Rankings are updated every Tuesday. They’re based on recent bouts, head-to-head competition and the quality of opponent. As with almost everything, until fighters square off against one another, there is a layer of subjectivity to it. Fighters who haven’t fought in 18 months and don’t have a fight scheduled will be removed from the rankings until they fight again.
