What’s the format in Super 8s?

The top two teams in each group – A to D – progressed to the Super 8s, which is made up of two groups of four.

The International Cricket Council pre-determined the Super 8 groups if the eight seeded sides qualified:

X Group: India (X1), Australia (X2), West Indies (X3), South Africa (X4)

Y Group: England (Y1), New Zealand (Y2), Pakistan (Y3), Sri Lanka (Y4)

If any of those sides did not progress, the teams who did get through in their place were to fill the spot and with Australia failing to qualify, Zimbabwe took their spot in the Super 8s.

Each team plays three matches in the Super 8s phase, facing each of the other teams in their group once.

After those fixtures, the top two teams from each group will advance to the semi-finals, with the winner of each Super 8s group facing the runner-up from the other.
