Meanwhile, about 366 miles (589km) away, Barcelona FC drew 1-1 against Newcastle United.

Adam Spencer, supporter experience officer at Exeter City, stated the Barcelona fan was “pretty gutted and a bit embarrassed”.

Spencer stated the man’s English was “not great”, but from what the team gathered he had travelled from London.

“My guess is he’d put St James Park in his phone and then just followed the directions from there,” he stated.

“We sorted him out a ticket and he got to watch a game at the real St James Park.”

Spencer stated the man was “welcome back anytime”.
