The Melania Trump movie’s release has been a controversial one, and recently set an unexpected record on Rotten Tomatoes as a result.

What record did Melania set on Rotten Tomatoes?

Following the film’s release, Melania debuted on the review aggregator’s site to a scathing 6% score amongst critics. On the flipside, though, the film’s score amongst fans is at an usually high 99%. While some believe this to be the result of some manipulation, Rotten Tomatoes tells THR that isn’t the case.

“There has been NO manipulation on the audience reviews for the Melania documentary,” the company reported in a statement provided to The Hollywood Reporter. “Reviews displayed on the Popcornmeter are VERIFIED reviews, meaning it has been verified that users have bought a ticket to the film through Fandango.”

While the 99% score is high, the audience for the movie is likely set to like it inherently, so it’s not particularly surprising. Still, that combined with reports of the film’s ticket sales have led many to believe that there might be something else accounting for the film’s massive score.

Melania had its premiere at the Kennedy Center before having a theatrical release. The film is also set to stream on Prime Video following its release, although no official streaming release has been set for the movie.

“Melania offers unprecedented access to the 20 days leading up to the 2025 Presidential Inauguration — through the eyes of the First Lady herself,” the official synopsis reads. “Step inside Melania Trump’s world as she orchestrates inauguration plans, navigates the complexities of the White House transition, and moves her family back to the Nation’s Capital.”

Melania is directed by Brett Ratner, a controversial director who was accused of sexual assault years ago. Melania is Ratner’s first directed movie since 2014’s Hercules.
