Since the league switched to the new lottery system before the 2018-19 season, the team with the worst record had never received the top pick — until Sunday. Washington finished the season with the league’s worst mark at 17-65.
The last time the Wizards drafted No. 1 the pick was John Wall, who represented the team on stage today. Washington’s other No. 1 pick was Kwame Brown in 2001. In ESPN’s newest mock draft, Jeremy Woo projected that the Wizards would select BYU’s AJ Dybantsa.
