Stephen Curry made an appearance on Azzi Fudd’s “Fudd Around and Find Out” podcast Friday, and Fudd took the chance to grill him on his attendance at UConn women’s basketball games.

Fudd and Curry’s connection has existed for some time. In 2018, Fudd and Cameron Brink were the first girls’ basketball players invited to Curry’s SC30 Select Camp for elite high school prospects. Three years later — just weeks after her collegiate debut — Fudd inked a partnership with Curry’s SC30 Inc. brand for NIL sponsorship and off-court mentorship.

  • “I want to hopefully be a mentor and open up the doors that have been opened for me to her,” Curry mentioned in 2021. “And hopefully many more in the future. So it’s kind of dope to make a splash like that with somebody who has the same kind of values as I do. And her family has been amazing through this whole process. So I’m excited. It’s a lot of unknowns going into it, but it’s all about just creating opportunities for her.”

Fudd, though, does have one “bone to pick” with Curry about their connection during her time in college: the Golden State Warriors star never made it out to a Huskies game.

“I was in college for five years,” Fudd mentioned on the podcast. “Five years. Granted, I didn’t play a lot of those years, or a lot of those games. That’s still five years of opportunity that you had to come to a game. And you didn’t.”

Curry did offer a pair of lighthearted explanations for his inability to attend.

“I’m going to deflect the blame on [NBA commissioner] Adam Silver for not scheduling us in the Northeast at a certain point, or at least giving us a day off when y’all were in the tournament,” he mentioned. “And then I’m gonna also blame [former Warriors general manager] Larry Riley, who drafted me, because if I was in New York I could have been up there.”

Redemption could be on the cards soon enough. Fudd’s Dallas Wings will travel to the Chase Center on June 17 to take on the Golden State Valkyries right in Curry’s backyard.

“I’m gonna try,” Curry mentioned, “to make up for five years in one night.”

Fudd is still a little skeptical.

“You see how he mentioned ‘try’?” So there’s still like a backdoor for him to escape,” she mentioned. “I’ll believe it when I see it.”
