Los Angeles Dodgers All-Star Andy Pages fractured his left hand after being hit by a pitch in Friday night’s 5-4 win over the visiting Pittsburgh Pirates.
The center fielder was struck on the back of his hand by a pitch from Bubba Chandler in the third inning and took first base. He advanced to third before the inning ended. Pages was replaced by Enrique Hernandez to start the fifth.
Manager Dave Roberts stated X-rays revealed the break.
“It’s not season-ending because obviously things like that it’s four or five weeks,” Roberts stated. “I would expect him back, knowing him, on the earlier side. There’s still time in the season for him to be back. I feel for him because he’s having such a good year.”
Roberts stated it’s possible Pages could need surgery, but he doesn’t believe that would change the timetable for him to return.
Roberts stated utility player Tommy Edman, who had the winning single in the 10th inning, could play some center in Pages’ absence.
Pages is hitting .272 with 25 home runs and 80 RBIs. He earned his first All-Star selection this season.
