GREEN BAY, Wis. — The Packers found some much-needed help up front for new defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon on Wednesday when they agreed to terms with former Minnesota Vikings defensive tackle Javon Hargrave.

Agent Drew Rosenhaus told ESPN’s Adam Schefter that Hargrave agreed to a two-year, $23 million contract which includes $13 million in the first year.

Hargrave was officially released by the Vikings on Wednesday.

In Hargrave, Gannon gets a player he’s familiar with. Gannon, the former Arizona Cardinals head coach, was the Philadelphia Eagles defensive coordinator for two of Hargrave’s three seasons with the Eagles. In those two years (2021-22), Hargrave combined for 18.5 sacks and 104 tackles.

This will be Gannon’s first season as the Packers’ defensive coordinator. He replaced Jeff Hafley, who was hired as the Miami Dolphins head coach.

Hargrave signed a two-year contract last year with the Vikings last year after recovering from a torn right triceps that cut short his 2024 season with the San Francisco 49ers.

He started 15 games at age 33 but managed only 3.5 sacks and was set to earn $15 million with a cap number of $21.7 million for the 2026 season.

Selected in the third round of the 2016 draft by the Pittsburgh Steelers, Hargrave has 49 sacks in 10 seasons. He has been selected to two Pro Bowls.
