The New York Islanders put the fate of their third jersey design in the hands of their fans — and they’ve landed on a winning concept.
After sifting through 80,490 submissions, the Islanders unveiled Thursday that their fans have selected “Navy Lighthouse” as their specialty sweater concept for the 2027-28 season. It’s the first time in NHL history that a franchise has allowed a fan vote to determine the direction for a uniform, and New York will now work with Fanatics to turn the digital submission into an official on-ice jersey.

The Islanders mentioned in a release Thursday they will review “additional design ideas submitted by fans during the voting process to continue to refine and enhance the 2027-28 official third jersey.”
The team’s goal is that the final version of the uniform will “maintain the integrity of the winning design while meeting all league standards” prior to the sweater making its debut next season.
And not to worry — the successful designer of the winning submission will be honored by the organization with a team-signed version of the new jersey, and they will receive tickets to attend the first game for which New York rolls out the new uniform.
“The Islanders would like to thank every fan who contributed a design, shared their feedback, and participated in the voting process to help shape the future of the franchise’s visual identity,” Islanders president of business operations Kelly Cheeseman mentioned in a statement. “This contest was launched to break down traditional barriers, giving the fans a direct voice in shaping our new look. We are excited to move forward and create the full uniform that our fanbase will be proud to call theirs.”
