Davies has made more than 350 appearances for Tottenham since joining from Swansea City.

Last summer, Tottenham triggered a one-year extension in Davies’ contract to keep him at the club for the 2025-26 campaign, but there has been no word yet on whether he will be at the club next season.

Spurs have been heavily linked with a move for Scotland left-back Andy Robertson, who is a free agent having made his final appearance for Liverpool on Sunday.

Mabbutt, an FA Cup and Uefa Cup winner during his time at Tottenham, says the club must do significant business in the transfer market this summer having preserved their Premier League status on the final day of the season courtesy of victory over Everton.

“We have to bring in, I would say, a number of big players to change the squad,” he told BBC Radio Wales Breakfast.

“We need to change the level we are at. The ambition of the club is incredible and yet it’s not been reflected in the way things have happened in the last couple of seasons. A lot of work has to be done.”
