NFL preseason Week 1 is officially in the books, and not many teams were left unscathed. Washington Commanders quarterback Marcus Mariota suffered a sprained MCL that should hold him out for the remainder of the preseason, Minnesota Vikings defensive Swiss Army knife Jamal Adams suffered a season-ending injury in the Meadowlands, Houston Texans backup signal-caller Graham Mertz tore his ACL, and the Arizona Cardinals are dealing with several notable issues.
Winning the war of attrition is important for any Super Bowl contender, and a major injury could derail any team’s season. Unfortunately, it happens every year, and sometimes before we even reach the regular season.
Below, we will break down all of the notable injuries from around the league as we enter the second week of the preseason.
Tennessee Titans

Mitch Trubisky

Aug. 17: Tennessee Titans backup quarterback Mitch Trubisky was seen holding his throwing arm after a deep pass attempt. Head coach Robert Saleh reported he’s being evaluated for a biceps injury. Depending on the severity, this could open the door for Will Levis to see more reps.
New York Jets

Breece Hall

Aug. 17: New York Jets star running back Breece Hall will miss two to three weeks — but is expected to be available for Week 1 — after suffering a non-contact groin strain after making a catch in practice.
Arizona Cardinals

Jeremiyah Love
View Profile
Aug. 16: The No. 3 overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft had an explosive preseason debut, rushing for 58 yards on 11 carries, and turned three receptions into 14 yards. However, he left with what was determined to be a high ankle sprain.
Cardinals head coach Mike LaFleur initially reported that Jeremiyah Love “could have returned” to action, but two days later reported the rookie would not practice this week or play in Week 2 of the preseason. High ankle sprains are issues that can linger, so it’s fair to speculate about his status for the season opener on Sept. 13.

Chase Bisontis

Aug. 14: It turns out the Cardinals’ top two picks from this year’s draft were injured in the preseason opener, but the news is much worse for No. 34 overall pick Chase Bisontis. The Texas A&M product unfortunately tore his MCL, and will miss his entire rookie season. Bisontis was viewed as one of the top interior linemen in this past class, having played snaps at both guard and center. Now, he is forced to turn his efforts to recovery.
Minnesota Vikings

Jamal Adams

Aug. 15: Adams suffered a torn quadricep during the Vikings’ preseason opener, head coach Kevin O’Connell revealed. It’s a season-ending injury for Adams, who signed with Minnesota in late July. He’s expected to stay around the team during his recovery, O’Connell reported. Adams also suffered the same injury during his time with the Seattle Seahawks back in 2022, but this one is to the opposite leg.
Chicago Bears

Kyle Monangai

Aug. 17: Monangai reportedly suffered a hyperextended knee during a weekend practice. He’s expected to miss multiple weeks but the outcome is considered positive, according to ESPN. D’Andre Swift is likely to carry a heavier workload if Monangai has to miss any time during the regular season, but he has around four weeks to recover.
New Orleans Saints

Jordyn Tyson

Aug. 17: Tyson is expected to be out approximately two months with a hamstring injury suffered last week and could begin the season on injured reserve. It’s a huge blow for the Saints, who took Tyson with the No. 8 overall pick in this year’s NFL Draft. Tyson has a history of hamstring injuries, but according to NFL Media, this one is new and considered unrelated to his prior issues.

Alvin Kamara
View Profile
Aug. 18: Kamara left the Saints’ joint practice with the Cowboys early with a knee injury, but he avoided a major injury, per Nick Underhill of NewOrleans.Football. Still, Kamara will be sidelined for a few weeks, according to Underhill. The five-time Pro Bowler is expected to have a reduced role after the Saints signed Travis Etienne Jr. but still provides strong pass-catching ability.
Los Angeles Chargers

Tyler Biadasz
View Profile
Aug. 18 Biadasz, signed to a three-year, $30 million deal this offseason to fill Los Angeles’ major need at center, suffered a gruesome-looking injury during the Chargers’ joint practice with the 49ers. He was carted off the field and unable to put any weight on his leg per ESPN’s Kris Rhim and The Athletic’s Daniel Popper. For more analysis on this injury, click here.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Emeka Egbuka
View Profile
Aug. 11: Egbuka suffered a toe sprain, and at the time it wasn’t deemed a significant setback. However, on Aug. 18, coach Todd Bowles struck a different tone, calling both Egbuka and his fellow wide receiver Jalen McMillan (knee) “day to day, week to week” and saying he’s unsure if the injury will impact Egbuka’s availability for Week 1.
