NFL training camp is typically a time for optimism. Hope abounds that all the changes a team made during the offseason — whether hiring a new coach, signing players in free agency, acquiring them via trade or selecting them in the draft — will lead to a better season than the year before.
The one thing every team needs to avoid for that to happen, of course, is injuries. A major injury can derail plans for the entire year, especially if it happens to a key player. Alas, injuries happen every year, and it’s important to keep track of who’s hurt, when and how the injury happened, and how long they might be sidelined.
With that in mind, consider this your one-stop shop for all the injury news coming out of NFL training camps during July and August.
New York Jets

Kenyon Sadiq
View Profile
New York Jets head coach Aaron Glenn delivered some troubling news on Tuesday, as first-round pick tight end Kenyon Sadiq is going to miss some time after “having a little setback.” There’s not an exact timetable for his return, although Glenn doesn’t think Sadiq will miss the season opener. The rookie had offseason hernia surgery.
The No. 16 overall pick was the top tight end in his past draft, setting career highs with 51 catches for 560 yards and eight touchdowns for the Oregon Ducks last season. No FBS tight end caught more touchdowns than Sadiq. He was expected to make an immediate impact on this Jets offense, but New York does have another capable tight end in Mason Taylor.
San Francisco 49ers

Christian McCaffrey
View Profile
McCaffrey missed Monday’s practice with what the team called “tightness,” which obviously doesn’t provide much in the way of information. CMC is coming off a season during which he led the NFL with 413 touches, then recorded 37 more in two playoff games. He has a history of breaking down following seasons with huge workloads, so any missed practice time is obviously worth monitoring.

Ricky Pearsall
View Profile
Pearsall is expected to undergo season-ending surgery on his ongoing PCL injury that has been an issue since last season. Niners general manager John Lynch mentioned that Pearsall is expected to make a full recovery.

Jordan James
View Profile
James is expected to miss time after he suffered a rib fracture during Monday’s practice. The 49ers have yet to offer a timeline for his possible return.

Malik Mustapha
View Profile
Mustapha sat out Wednesday’s practice as he is dealing with a hamstring strain. Like James, Mustapha’s injury occurred during Monday’s practice.

Nick Bosa
View Profile
Bosa missed Saturday’s practice with “soreness,” and on Tuesday 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan mentioned the star pass rusher is considered week to week due to tendinitis in his surgically repaired knee.
Kansas City Chiefs

Cyrus Allen
View Profile
Allen, who had been enjoying a strong start to his first NFL camp, was carted off the field on Saturday after colliding with Kaiir Elam on a special teams drill. ESPN later revealed that test conducted on Allen revealed a shin bruise. Nothing was torn or broke, so he appears to have dodged a bullet.
Buffalo Bills

Chauncey Gardner-Johnson
View Profile
During Saturday’s practice, Johnson went down and was unable to put any weight on his right leg as he was aided off the field. He was also seen clutching the area around his Achilles. Despite being carted to the locker room, ESPN reports that Gardner-Johnson merely suffered a lower calf strain, so he avoided any serious injury.
Johnson, 28, was enjoying a solid start to training camp. A seven-year veteran, Johnson’s NFL accolades includes a Super Bowl win with the Eagles and leading the NFL in interceptions back in 2022.
Atlanta Falcons

Tua Tagovailoa
View Profile
Falcons coach Kevin Stefanski that Tagovailoa is working through an injury and will the early portions of training camp. With Tagovailoa sidelined, the Falcons have signed veteran backup Cooper Rush.
Regarding fellow quarterback Michael Penix’s status, Stefanski recently mentioned that he still hasn’t been cleared for full team activities. Penix is still working his way back from a torn ACL that was sustained during Week 11 of the 2025 season.

Jalon Walker
View Profile
Atlanta brought its Aug. 4 practice to a close after Walker went down with a leg injury. It is feared to be a torn ACL for the second-year edge rusher. His Falcons teammates took knees and surrounded him while trainers evaluated him, and he was then carted off the field. Walker sustained the injury in an 11-on-11 two-minute drill at the Falcons’ non-padded practice.
Carolina Panthers

Nic Scourton
View Profile
The Panthers placed Scourton on injured reserve after he suffered a torn ACL in his right knee on the first day of training camp. Scourton was reportedly in tears as he left the field, and his teammates came over to hug him as he exited.
Head coach Dave Canales mentioned at the time that Scourton would undergo an MRI to determine the severity of the injury, and the results validated the second-year edge rusher had torn his ACL.

Chris Brazzell II
View Profile
While the initial plan was for Brazzell to recover without surgery, a second opinion determined that a procedure to repair the moderate LCL tear in his left knee is the best course of action, according to The Athletic. The surgery will force Brazzell to miss his entire rookie season, which is a much longer timeline than the eight weeks that was presented in the immediate wake of his injury. The LCL tear does not appear to be related to the knee issue the third-round pick dealt with leading up to training camp.

Xavier Legette
View Profile
Former first-round pick Xavier Legette reportedly went down hard on his back and head while attempting to make a catch during drills on Tuesday. After remaining on the turf for some time, the wideout was helped up and carted off the field, per WCNC.
While it doesn’t appear Legette suffered a serious, season-ending injury, it was another scare for a team that has already suffered too many losses in training camp. Legette is still looking to live up to his No. 32 overall pick billing. In 15 games played last year, he caught 35 passes for 363 yards and three touchdowns.
New Orleans Saints

Bryan Bresee
View Profile
The Saints were hit with awful news on Wednesday as it appears that Bresee suffered a season-ending ACL tear during Wednesday’s practice. A former first-round pick, Bresee has quietly become one of the NFL’s best defensive linemen. The Saints will now look to try to find his replacement for the upcoming season.

Cameron Jordan
View Profile
Jordan is dealing with a hamstring injury that head coach Kellen Moore mentioned could go into the regular season. Moore added “we’ll see” as the Saints are continuing to evaluate the issue. New Orleans has already lost one defensive lineman for the season and can scarcely afford to lose another contributor up front.
Cincinnati Bengals

Shemar Stewart
View Profile
The 2025 first-round pick’s Wednesday practice came to an abrupt end after his leg buckled. Stewart — who played in just eight games during his rookie season — was carted off the field shortly after sustaining the injury. According to ESPN, Stewart suffered a hyperextended knee with no ligament damage, which seems like best-case scenario given the initial reporting around the injury.
Detroit Lions

Alim McNeill
View Profile
McNeill left Friday’s practice with a neck injury suffered in a pile-up during 11-on-11 drills, according to the Detroit Free Press. The Lions are already shorthanded in the secondary and can scarcely use an injury up front. McNeil wasn’t himself last season after returning from a torn ACL and it’s not a great sign to see him banged up early in camp this year.

Cade Mays
View Profile
The Lions signed former Panthers center Cade Mays to a three-year deal worth $25 million this offseason to replace Graham Glasgow. However, Mays suffered a wrist injury that will force him to miss a “significant period of time,” per head coach Dan Campbell. Mays will return at some point this year, “but it will be down the road.”

Isiah Pacheco
View Profile
Campbell told reporters that new running back Isiah Pacheco suffered an MCL sprain in practice, but that he is expected to be ready for the season opener vs. New Orleans.
New England Patriots

A.J. Brown
View Profile
Brown told NFL Media that he dislocated his thumb at a Patriots practice. Brown returned to practice and caught several passes. “Thumb out of place,” he mentioned. “You keep going.” This is certainly going to be an important injury to monitor.
Chicago Bears

Coby Bryant
View Profile
Bryant suffered a hyperextended knee, bone bruise and small fracture during practice. While his initial recovery timeline of eight to 10 weeks would have put him on track to return by the season’s midpoint, the cornerback could now miss the entire regular season. Bryant underwent surgery on the injured knee and will now miss four to six months, coach Ben Johnson unveiled. The Bears are hopeful he will be available for the playoffs should they clinch a berth.
It’s a brutal blow for a Bears secondary that was already one of the thinner units on the team. It’s also rough for Bryant, who signed a big free agent deal with Chicago this offseason.

Luther Burden III
View Profile
CBS Sports’ Matt Zenitz reports that Bears wideout Luther Burden III suffered a groin injury after a one-on-one rep vs. Tyrique Stevenson in the red zone, and is expected to miss about a month. The Bears hope he can return for the Sept. 13 season opener against Carolina.
Arizona Cardinals

Trey Benson
View Profile
Benson experienced discomfort and flaring in his surgically-repaired knee, according to head coach Mike LaFleur. He was feeling better on Monday August 3, which LaFleur mentioned was good news, and added that it’s not likely to be a multi-week issue. Still, it’s never a good sign when a player who had surgery experiences “discomfort” in the body part that was repaired.
Baltimore Ravens

Nate Wiggins
View Profile
Wiggins was carted off the field during the Ravens’ Aug. 11 practice after he went down in the end zone while covering rookie wide receiver Ja’Kobi Lane in one-on-one drills. Wiggins appeared to have some sort of leg or knee injury, per reporters on the scene. The Ravens are relatively thin at cornerback behind Wiggins, so this is a potentially major injury for a defense looking to bounce back under first-year head coach Jesse Minter, who offered an news: “I don’t have a ton of information yet. … I think there’s optimism.”
Washington Commanders

Laremy Tunsil
View Profile
Tunsil is out indefinitely after suffering torn triceps. The left tackle will miss at least a good amount of the regular season and will likely need surgery, per NFL Network.
Indianapolis Colts

Alec Pierce
View Profile
Pierce has yet to practice as he recovers from ankle surgery he underwent this offseason. He was placed on the team’s PUP list ahead of training camp. General manager Chris Ballard clarified that Pierce did not receive a second platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injection in his ankle, as had previously been revealed, and stated that he anticipates Pierce will be ready for Week 1.

Charvarius Ward
View Profile
Ward did not travel with the Colts for their joint practice with the Patriots. General manager Chris Ballard mentioned Ward dealt with some pain after Sunday’s practice, so he stayed in Indianapolis to rehab.
Green Bay Packers

Josh Jacobs
View Profile
Packers coach Matt LaFleur mentioned Tuesday that Jacobs will be out for “at least a week” as he continues to deal with a groin injury. The injury initially sidelined Jacobs during last Thursday’s practice.
Philadelphia Eagles

Jonathan Greenard
View Profile
Eagles defensive coordinator Vic Fangio mentioned Tuesday that it will be “another couple of weeks at least” until Greenard will be able to resume football activities. Greenard hasn’t practice since he sustained a pectoral strain while lifting weights before the start of training camp.
