Younger players ‘have stepped up’

Despite qualifying for another major tournament being the main aim, during his short tenure McArdle has made it clear that he is aiming to develop a team for the future.

McKenna believes that the younger players have helped “boost” the side as they aim to further develop.

“Obviously, coming in, we’ve had some fresh faces,” she stated.

“That’s helped boost the group as well. The new players that have come in have done so well and hopefully, we can bring that into tomorrow night.”

Sixteen of the 23 current squad are under the age of 25 with the Scot handing Linfield youngster Cora Chambers her first cap during the last window and including uncapped teenager Emily Cassap this time around.

“Over the last few camps, we’ve seen a lot more younger ones come through,” the Birmingham defender added.

“Any time they’ve come in, they’ve stepped up and that’s exciting for the future as well.”
