Celtic fans have been protesting against the club’s board throughout the season, over dissatisfaction with transfer activity and a perceived lack of ambition.

Rangers fans were also protesting before Rohl’s appointment in October brought a sharp upturn in results and hauled them back into the title race.

Sutton acknowledged the German’s positive impact at Ibrox, but says after ceding a two-goal lead to Celtic and drawing four of their past six league games, the Scottish Cup tie takes on more importance.

“I think the Rangers fans would be dissatisfied [if they lose] and would see this as a real opportunity of winning a trophy,” Sutton added.

“Danny Rohl has done a good job since he’s come in but I think the pressure is more on him than Martin O’Neill.”
