June 28: Sunday’s news to know

A pair of 1:35 p.m. ET affairs kick off today’s 15-game slate. The fantasy week concludes with the New York Yankees trying to avoid a four-game sweep in Fenway Park, courtesy of the Boston Red Sox. They play the only evening game on the schedule, beginning at 7:20 p.m. ET.

With Edward Cabrera on the 15-day IL and the Chicago Cubs playing a doubleheader earlier in the week, they need to piece together today’s road matchup with the Milwaukee Brewers. Lefty Ryan Rolison is set to start, likely followed by a parade of relievers, as no one is stretched out enough to handle more than an inning or two.

The New York Mets must also piece together today’s game, as they’re dealing with injuries and just traded swingman David Peterson to the Cardinals. The Mets will open with Cionel Perez and then follow with many relievers.

Heliot Ramos is expected to join the San Francisco Giants today after missing just over six weeks with a sore quad. He’s exclusively played left field since the beginning of last season, but can handle center and right. He is initially ticketed for full-time play in right field as Casey Schmitt plays left and Bryce Eldridge serves as the designated hitter. The club will reevaluate when Harrison Bader returns from plantar fasciitis, but there is no timetable set.

Chase Petty picked up the save for the Cincinnati Reds last night, but before overpaying for his stats, keep in mind that Emilio Pagan is due to return next week and reclaim ninth-inning duties.

June 27: Saturday morning’s news to know

The Red Sox claimed the first two contests. Five more matinees follow, leaving 10 evening games.

The Red Sox will be without Marcelo Mayer after he was placed on the 10-day IL Friday with a stress reaction in his left forearm. The rookie has been playing through the injury, but the club finally decided to shut him down until he gets better. With Isiah Kiner-Falefa and Nick Sogard also on the shelf, the Red Sox called up Tsung-Che Cheng and inserted him at shortstop last night.

The St. Louis Cardinals scratched Dustin May from today’s start and will skip his turn in the rotation. The rejuvenated right-hander has been experiencing lingering back tightness, stemming from his complete-game shutout recorded on June 15. A rainout earlier this week allows Andre Pallante to move up a day and still pitch on four days of rest when he faces the Miami Marlins at home.

Jesus Sanchez left last night’s game in the seventh inning with a sprained right ankle. X-rays were negative, leaving him day-to-day. Davis Schneider took over in left field for the Toronto Blue Jays. If Sanchez misses more time, Schneider and Miles Straw are the likely replacements. The Blue Jays are slated to face a couple of Texas Rangers right-handers this weekend, so Sanchez would normally be in the lineup.

The Tampa Bay Rays are the innovators of the opener-bulk reliever duo, but today they’re deploying a bullpen game with Cole Sulser leading a parade of relievers against the Arizona Diamondbacks. It’s Drew Rasmussen’s turn in the rotation, but he would be pitching with four days of rest, something he has done just twice this season.

After leaving last Monday’s game with back spasms, Kyle Tucker returned to the Los Angeles Dodgers lineup last night. The club is hoping for a more typical second half after Tucker posted a modest .707 OPS over his first 75 games.
June 26: Friday’s news to know

Weather will likely be an issue, with at least two games in jeopardy due to rain in the forecast for the Washington Nationals at the Baltimore Orioles and the Seattle Mariners at the Cleveland Guardians. It may also be wet when the Pittsburgh Pirates host the Cincinnati Reds and the St. Louis Cardinals entertain the Miami Marlins.

Mother Nature washed out the Cardinals and the Arizona Diamondbacks at Busch Stadium on Thursday. The game has been rescheduled for Thursday, July 23, which was a mutual off day. Both probable starters from last night will take the hill tonight instead, with the Cardinals’ Michael McGreevy taking on the Marlins and Zac Gallen leading the Diamondbacks into St. Petersburg to challenge the Tampa Bay Rays.

Corey Seager cleared the league’s concussion protocol and returned to the Texas Rangers lineup last night. The club opted against a rehab assignment despite the shortstop having missed a dozen games. He went 0-for-3 with two walks and a run scored in the Rangers’ 6-5 win over the Toronto Blue Jays.

Caleb Durbin was back in the Boston Red Sox lineup, even though he had been forced from Wednesday night’s game due to a partial dislocation of his left pinky finger. It’s a good thing he was able to play, as Durbin’s two-run homer off Cam Schlittler led the Red Sox to a 6-3 win over the New York Yankees. The victory raised Boston’s record to just 13-25 at Fenway Park.

Just as the New York Mets enjoyed a boost with Francisco Lindor returning from injury, his double-play partner hit the 10-day IL. Marcus Semien has been sidelined courtesy of a left hip flexor strain, with his timetable still to be determined. Brett Baty will cover the keystone with Ronny Mauricio called up from Triple-A Syracuse to provide infield depth.

The Athletics placed Zack Gelof on the 10-day IL due to a bruised hand. Since being installed as the regular third baseman, he had posted a .288/.342/.507 line. The club is hoping for the minimum stay, with Max Muncy in line to handle the hot corner. They’re also hoping that SS Jacob Wilson‘s shoulder injury isn’t serious. He was held out of last night’s game with Alika Williams summoned from Triple-A Las Vegas to join the lineup.

The Guardians will reportedly promote top prospect Cooper Ingle ahead of tonight’s home game with the Mariners. Ingle is a catcher, but he had been seeing reps in left field for Triple-A Columbus. The offense needs a spark with Jose Ramirez, Chase DeLauter, and Angel Martinez all on the shelf. The 24-year-old has produced a .284/.416/.551 line, earning the call.

The Royals anticipate having Bobby Witt Jr. back in the lineup for this evening’s road affair with the Chicago White Sox. The star shortstop hasn’t played since being diagnosed with a Grade 1 MCL strain, suffered on June 18. He went through a full workout on Wednesday and experienced no issues yesterday. While he was again available off the bench, he wasn’t needed in the 13-2 loss to the Rays.

Next Saturday is Independence Day, and that means the annual morning game at Washington’s Nationals Park. The Washington Nationals’ home game against the Pittsburgh Pirates is scheduled for a 11:05 a.m. ET start time, so make sure to set your lineups early on that date.

Hunter Greene, a top-30 starting pitcher on the Player Rater in both of the last two seasons (and the Cincinnati Reds’ ace) when healthy, could make his 2026 debut during the holiday weekend. The right-hander is scheduled for a Sunday rehab start for Triple-A Louisville and is projected for 80-85 pitches. If all goes well, he’d be activated for either Friday or Saturday’s game at home against the Baltimore Orioles.

Bo Bichette, who signed a seven-figure, free-agent contract with the New York Mets in January, makes his first trip back to Toronto to face his original team, the Toronto Blue Jays, to begin the week. Bichette has struggled mightily thus far, averaging just 0.41 fantasy points per game, with a wOBA 46 points lower than his career mark entering the year.

The Chicago White Sox, who won two of three games against fellow AL Central-leading Cleveland Guardians (the two teams were tied entering play on Thursday), get another chance to create space between the sides in the standings with a four-game weekend series at Cleveland’s Progressive Field.
