Yorkshire fell to a 56-run defeat by the South Group’s second-placed side Gloucestershire at Headingley despite Adam Lyth’s knock of 97.

D’Arcy Short’s 82 from 50 balls led the way with the bat for Gloucestershire and he was supported by T20 debutant Joe Phillips, who contributed 42 as the visitors finished on 217-6. Hasan Ali was the pick of the Yorkshire bowlers with figures of 3-29.

Short then did damage with the ball, dismissing Moeen Ali and Matthew Revis in successive deliveries to finish with figures of 4-31 as Yorkshire finished on 161 all out, although they remain at the top of the North Group.

Derbyshire suffered a third loss of the competition as they left Chelmsford on the receiving end of a five-wicket defeat by Essex.

Having won the toss, the Falcons’ decision to bat first looked as though it had backfired when Simon Harmer removed Ross Whiteley to reduce the visitors to 75-5.

Matt Montgomery (50), along with a timely cameo from Nick Potts (35), nudged Derbyshire up to a competitive total of 173, but Essex began their chase well and that laid the foundations for victory.

Paul Walter (41) struck nine fours as he and Charlie Allison (67*) put on 64 for the second wicket. Matt Critchley (37) then applied the finishing touches at the expense of his former club.

Essex are now fourth in the South Group having won twice in three days, while Derbyshire are second in the North Group.

George Munsey’s unbeaten 88 went a long way to leading Notts to victory over Durham

Nottinghamshire bounced back from their defeat by Derbyshire on Friday night with a comfortable six-wicket victory over Durham at Trent Bridge.

It was their first win of the campaign, having suffered defeats in their opening three matches, with George Munsey’s unbeaten 88 steering them to victory in what proved to be a relatively straightforward chase.

Dillon Pennington removed Graham Clark with the first ball of the match and Durham’s innings progressed in fits and starts from there. A number of batters in the middle order made starts, with Will Rhodes (38) and Ollie Robinson (36) the pick, but they could only muster 156-8.

Munsey hit nine fours and three sixes in Nottinghamshire’s reply of 157-4 as he put on a crucial partnership of 91 with Freddie McCann to steer them to victory with 16 balls to spare.

Notts are fifth in the North Group, while Durham are third.

Chris Lynn scored a 53-ball century as Northants beat Warwickshire

Chris Lynn trumped his compatriot Beau Webster at Edgbaston as the Australian guided Northamptonshire to a six-wicket victory over Warwickshire with a terrific, unbeaten innings of 115 from 59 balls.

The Bears won the toss and posted 208-7, thanks in no small part to Webster, who scored a T20 career-best of 97, ably assisted by captain Ed Barnard (40).

Set a target of 209, Northamptonshire’s pursuit got off to a scorching start and, courtesy of openers Lynn and Ricardo Vasconcelos (27), they were 69-1 at the very end of the powerplay.

Lynn stayed in place as they clinched their target with four balls to spare to keep the Steelbacks at the summit of the Central and West Group, while bottom-placed Warwickshire remain in search of their first victory.

Hampshire made light work of the challenge set before them by Middlesex, who they beat comprehensively by eight wickets to move top of the South Group.

Middlesex were reduced to 33-3 in the powerplay and Chris Wood (2-20) did most of the damage when he saw off Max Holden and Josh De Caires in successive deliveries.

Only Luke Hollman, unbeaten on 47, offered any true resistance with the bat as Middlesex finished on 126-7 to set their visitors a modest target of 127.

Hampshire captain James Vince (45) and Joe Weatherley (36*) led the way in pursuit of the target, reaching 130-2 with six overs to spare.

Kent moved up to second place after thumping Surrey by eight wickets at the Kia Oval.

Surrey were skittled for 116 with only Tom Curran (32) managing to score more than 20 runs.

The Spitfires took wickets with regularity to prevent any partnerships from blossoming and Jake Lintott, on loan from Warwickshire, claimed eye-catching figures of 3-19, leaving the visitors with what appeared to be a routine chase.

Indeed, Kent opener Harry Finch (64*) made light work of what was presented to him and although Daniel Bell-Drummond and Zak Crawley got out cheaply, captain Sam Billings (42*) steered Kent to victory in just 14 overs.

Surrey dropped to third after their second defeat in three days.
