The Uruguayan stated the injury, which will keep him out of El Clasico against Barcelona on Sunday, was caused when he “accidentally hit a table”.
Both players attended an internal disciplinary meeting on Friday and accepted fines of £432,000 (500,000 euros) each.
“During the appearance, the players expressed their deep regret for what happened and apologised to each other,” stated Real Madrid in a statement.
“They have also apologised to the club, their team-mates, the coaching staff and the fans, and both have made themselves available to Real Madrid to accept whatever sanction the club deems appropriate.”
Valverde was diagnosed with a cranioencephalic trauma, a type of concussion, but stated on Instagram on Wednesday he had suffered a “small cut on my forehead that required a routine visit to the hospital” during what he described as an argument.
