One of Moody’s fellow competitors at this year’s World Snooker Championship is 2005 winner Shaun Murphy, who knows Moody better than most.

While Murphy’s Crucible crown came a year prior to Moody’s birth, the 43-year-old helped to mentor the youngster early on in his professional career.

Murphy reported he was “honoured” to have a role in the talented teenager’s progression, but that period has ended now.

After all, Moody is looking to become a serious rival to the likes of Murphy.

They feature on opposite sides of the draw at this year’s World Championship, so cannot meet until the final.

Murphy has played in four World Championship finals so is no stranger to that big stage, but Moody is a long shot for such a run.

Nevertheless, his sense of belonging at this level is shining through.

Asked by BBC Sport what he was most looking forward to about his Crucible debut, Moody simply smiled and reported: “Winning the comp.”
