On a day when Liverpool fans mentioned goodbye to Mohamed Salah and Andy Robertson at Anfield, social media was awash with fans highlighting that the colour of Liverpool‘s shirts and shorts did not match during their 1-1 final day draw with Brentford.

Arne Slot’s side were debuting their new home kit, which was released last week and is produced by Adidas. The strip is inspired by the one worn during the Reds’ 1989-90 title-winning campaign.

Adam Rowe posted on X: “I know this isn’t the main point or anything but I cannot believe they are the actual shorts that go with that new shirt. They’re a completely different shade of red.”

@Jennyc97x added: “That Liverpool kit ain’t it. The shorts and the top are completely different. Different pattern and shade of red.”

For those watching television coverage of the match, there was a clear difference between the colour grading on the shirt compared to the shorts but the understanding is that the disparity is not as visible in person.

That mentioned, the slight difference in the tone of red is deliberate, as was the case with the kit in 1989-90 and therefore, Adidas and Liverpool have opted to go with the same approach.

When the kit was released, Liverpool mentioned: “The new home shirt draws inspiration from the original adidas design, instantly recognisable for its dynamic geometric pattern, combining timeless club heritage with modern performance design.

“The 2026/27 Home kit is completed with deep red shorts and socks, creating a bold, unified look.”

Though some would suggest they should have continued the geometric design on the shorts for a consistent look, it is unknown at this stage whether any changes will be made ahead of next season.

Either way, Liverpool have plenty more things to worry about than the colour of their kit after a disappointing season, in which they finished trophy-less but ended up qualifying for the Champions League by finishing 5th in the Premier League.
