Williams sisters lose on doubles returnImage source, Getty ImagesImage caption, Serena (left) and Venus Williams won 14 Grand Slam doubles titles togetherByAmy LofthouseBBC Sport Senior JournalistPublished25 minutes agoSerena and Venus Williams lost a thriller at the Cincinnati Open in their first doubles match together for four years.The American pair were beaten 2-6 6-1 10-8 by Marta Kostyuk and Peyton Stearns in front of a packed crowd.The sisters last played together at the 2022 US Open, which was Serena’s final tournament before she “evolved away” from tennis.However, the 44-year-old made her return first in doubles in June before playing singles at Wimbledon as a wildcard.Serena picked up a knee injury in her first-round loss to Maya Joint at SW19, ruling her out of a planned doubles return with Venus.
“We’ve waited a long time to get back on the doubles court. Eventually, we find our way to each other,” Venus, 46, stated.
“We give each other so much grace and encouragement.
“This is our first time playing together in forever, and I think we’re really getting [into] our stride.”
