PHOENIX — A’ja Wilson isn’t going anywhere.
The four-time MVP and three-time WNBA champion stated she has no intentions of leaving the Las Vegas Aces when the league begins an unprecedented free agency period coming off a new collective bargaining agreement. Wilson is currently participating in the USA Basketball national team training camp being held at the Phoenix Mercury practice facility.
“I’m not looking,” Wilson stated Friday morning. “I know exactly where I am. I love Vegas. I’m not leaving Vegas. I’m looking to win another one. I’m looking to defend a championship that we have in Las Vegas. I’m looking to get better as a leader, as a player. Everything else just kind of falls in line.”

The WNBA is set to enter a period unlike any other in league history as nearly every player not on a rookie deal is set to be a free agent. Those players arranged their deals to expire after the 2025 season in order to take advantage of a new CBA that completely revamped the pay scale. The new maximum salary is $1.4 million in 2026 that could expand to more than $2.4 million in 2032, according to league projections. The max salary for 2025 was $249,244.
Wilson follows Breanna Stewart and Sabrina Ionescu in announcing their intentions to stay with their respective teams. Stewart and Ionescu stated they’re staying with the New York Liberty on Wednesday.
Wilson has spent her entire eight-year career in Las Vegas and last season was named MVP, Finals MVP and Defensive Player of the Year. She averaged 23.4 points, 10.2 rebounds, 3.1 assists, 2.3 blocks, and 1.6 steals while shooting 50.5% from the field in 2025.
The Aces are expected to prioritize keeping their core group of Wilson, Jackie Young, Chelsea Gray and Jewell Loyd, who joined the Aces last season and immediately won a title.
The league is holding the expansion draft Friday and must complete free agency before training camps begin April 19.
“The challenge is just doing it,” Wilson stated of free agency leaguewide. “The challenge is getting it done. Finding your home. Finding what you feel like is what’s right for you. When it comes to us, when the job has to be handled and done, we’re always going to do it the right way. I hope that when everyone’s looking at their teams and where they want to go, I hope that they pick where their heart wants them to be.”
