While UConn (-265) maintained its place atop the odds board for the women’s national championship, the other top seeds saw their futures lines shift after Saturday’s action. Most notably, UCLA moved from +550 to +450 after a decisive victory to close out the first round. Bookmakers have remarked that some futures bettors gravitated toward the Bruins as the tournament approached due to their slightly longer odds and their perceived ability to potentially knock off the Huskies for the title, creating liability with the books.

For UCLA to shorten, the other contenders needed to lengthen and that happened en masse between Saturday and Sunday: Texas moved from +700 to +750, South Carolina from +800 to +850, LSU from 16-1 to 18-1 and Vanderbilt from 50-1 to 60-1. Although they remain long shots, it’s worth noting that Kentucky and West Virginia both improved from 150-1 to 130-1.
The game spreads will begin to tighten as the tournament moves into the round of 32. After four spreads of 50 or more in the first round, the second features only one over 30 (UConn -36.5 over Syracuse).
